FAQs

  • Open Farm Day is an annual celebration of Madison County’s agricultural community, where local farms open their gates to the public for one special day of exploration, learning, and connection. Visitors have the opportunity to meet local farmers, tour operations, enjoy hands-on activities, sample farm-fresh products, and experience the many facets of life on the farm.

The backbone of this beloved event is Cornell Cooperative Extension Madison County (CCE Madison County), which organizes and coordinates the event —from farm outreach and planning to promotional efforts and technology so that farmers can focus on creating a fun and welcoming day. Our goal is to bridge the gap between the public and the people who grow their food, to support farm viability and agricultural awareness.

  • Open Farm Day is happening county-wide on Saturday, July 26th, 2025 from 10am to 4pm! Participating farms are located throughout Madison County, and you can visit as many as you’d like during the event.

Use our Open Farm Day Passport to plan your route and make the most of the day. Each farm offers unique activities, so get ready to explore, learn, and connect with your local farming community.

  • Some farms may offer products for sale or optional paid activities, and spending your money at local farms (on Open Farm Day and year round) is a great way to ensure sustainability of our local food system! Bring cash, as not all farms take cards.

Open Farm Day is a free to attend county event and pre-registration is encouraged so we can help farms plan ahead,

Pre-registration and Goosechase app information coming soon!

  • Passports will be available for download from our website and printed copies can be picked up at participating Price Chopper/Market 32 stores, your local library and other partners like 20 East in Madison County.

  • We recommend sunscreen, water, comfortable shoes, a cooler for local goods, and your Open Farm Day passport.

All farms are working farms. For everyone’s safety, please leave your dog at home, and contact farms ahead of time if you need to bring a service animal.

Open Farm Day is a rain or shine event— please plan accordingly!
